PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and an image processing method by which representative color compression with improved reproducibility of a single color can be performed.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus includes a compression unit that divides an input image into a plurality of blocks, divides each of the blocks into a plurality of areas constituted by pixels having colors similar to one another, sets a representative color to each of the plurality of areas obtained by dividing the block, and replaces the color of each of the pixels in the area with the set representative color and compresses the representative colors. The compression unit, when the number of pixels having the same color present in any of the areas in a predetermined block is equal to or more than a predetermined threshold, sets the color as a representative color of the area of the predetermined block. |
