Alkylates obtained by alkylation of aromatic hydrocarbons, such as benzene or toluene, with 8-18C olefines or n-alkyl chlorides in the presence of AlCl3 or AlBr3, contain dyestuff precursors consisting of 9- and 9,10-alkyl anthracenes, which impart a dark colour and blue fluorescence to the detergent alkylate product, and must be discoloured by hydrogenation before sulphonation. Discolouration is achieved by hydrogenating the dyestuff precursor-containing alkylate with H2 under mild hydrogenation conditions in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst for 0.25-5 hrs.
|
