An apparatus for retrofit with an unmonitored security alarm converts the unmonitored alarm into a monitored alarm. The apparatus comprises a means for interfacing with an unmonitored alarm which detects the activation of said alarm and reports this activation to a remote control station, 30. The remote control station may engage in two-way communication, using a microphone and/or speaker, 22, 23, with the base station when said base station is in a communicative state or switch that base station to a non-communicative state. The interfacing means may comprise a monitoring station, 10, for detecting and controlling the activation of the alarm and a base station, 20, for relaying communications between the monitoring station and the remote control station. The monitoring station may communicate with the remote control station using a telephone network. The base station may communicate with the monitoring station using wireless transmitters and/or receivers. |
