1,266,669. Cyclopentadiene adducts. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 24 Sept., 1970 [26 Sept., 1969], No. 45527/70. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C5] Cyclopentadiene and/or alkylcyclopentadienes are removed from mixtures thereof with other hydrocarbons by contact in the liquid phase with aqueous solutions of 1,2-unsaturated carboxylic acids to form Diels-Alder adducts, which are removed from the hydrocarbon in an aqueous layer. The acidic reagent may be acrylic, methacrylic, itaconic citraconic, mesaconic, fumaric or, preferably, maleic acid (or anhydride). The example describes the formation of bicyclo-[2,2<SP>1</SP>]-5-heptene-2,3-dicarboxylic acid. |
