<p>The machine is principally applicable to the peeling of tomatoes and comprises an inclined plane formed from a number of groups of two cylinders, arranged longitudinally and rotating in opposite directions. Two chains are arranged respectively on each side of the inclined plane; the chains constitute end supporting bearings for a number of rollers arranged transversally to the inclined plane. The cylinders are coated with rubber and have longitudinal flutes; the rollers are likewise coated with rubber. Some are provided with ridges and others are fitted with brushes on their peripherises which serve to dry clean the cylinders. The fruits are fed to the lower end of the inclined plane and are carried towards the upper end by the rollers. the later produce a jerky movement of the fruit and causes them to make multiple and successive contacts with the cylinders and result in the complete separation of the skins.</p> |
