The engine (1) has a suction passage (4) for supplying combustion air to a combustion chamber (3). A pressurized gas storing container (13) is connected to the suction passage to introduce pressurized gas i.e. air, into the suction passage. A compressor (6) compresses combustion air supplied to the combustion chamber. The compressor is coupled with the container at a discharge side to fill the pressurized gas in the container. The compressor and the container are coupled by a supply line (31). A pressure transmission device (32) is arranged in the compressor and the container. The pressure transmission device is designed as a free piston machine.
