PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light receiving/emitting unit and an optical encoder that secure reliability of a device and attain compactness/lightweight thereof, and can improve a yield of a product.SOLUTION: In a detection unit 1A, a light emitting diode (LED) chip 2 provided with a light emitting part 13 is mounted on a substrate-side semiconductor element 1a having first and second light reception element arrays 6 and 7 provided. Resin is coated on the LED chip 2 to form an encapsulation layer 16 and thereby the light emitting part 13 is covered. A weir part 17a for stopping a flow of the resin from a side of the LED chip 2 to a side of the first and second light reception element arrays 6 and 7 upon the resin coating is provided between the first and second light reception element arrays 6 and 7 and the LED chip 2. |
