PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a horizontal-striped fuel cell structure that has a support substrate less likely to be deformed by external force acting thereon and that reliably prevents a decline in gas sealing function.SOLUTION: A plurality of electrically series-connected power generating elements A are arranged at predetermined intervals on a main surface of a flat support substrate 10 that has fuel gas passages 11 formed therein. A plurality of recesses 12 are formed at predetermined intervals on the main surface of the support substrate 10. Each recess 12 is a cuboid depression that is defined by four side walls that are circumferentially closed and a bottom wall. In the recesses 12, respective fuel electrodes 20 of corresponding power generating elements A are embedded. A recess 21b is formed in an outer side surface of each fuel electrode 20. An interconnector 30 is embedded in a central portion of each recess 21b. A dense seal portion 35 having electrical insulating properties is embedded in a peripheral portion of each recess 21b that is positioned around the central portion. An entire peripheral portion of an outer side surface of the seal portion 35 is covered with a solid electrolyte membrane 40. |
