PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately perform the on-line counting of the number of long-size materials on the basis of a result obtained by picking up the image of the end face of a long-size material under cross-feed conveyance.SOLUTION: A plurality of virtual circles 610 are set for a frame image, and a central coordinate candidate as the candidate of a central position is derived from the central coordinates of the plurality of virtual circles 610 on the basis of the total sum of luminance in the virtual circles 610. As for a region in the virtual circle 610 with the central coordinate candidate as a center, the differential values of longitudinal and lateral directions of the pixel value of each pixel of the frame image are derived, and differential central coordinates are derived from the derived differential values of longitudinal and lateral directions. When a distance between the central coordinate candidate and the differential central coordinates is equal to or less than a threshold, the differential central coordinates are set to central coordinates.
