In an automatic double-acting slack adjuster of the telescopic, double nut and screw type, the feed-nut 23 is held by teeth 45 engaging teeth 46 and the front of the barrel. Adjustments:- Too tight.-Brake force tension above, e.g. 450 1b., compresses barre<SP>1</SP> spring 44 so that cone surface 24 on sleeve 20 disengages from lock-nut 23 allowing it to revolve. Too slack.-In off position stop 14 contacts tube 39 compressing spring 41 so that lock-nut 22 rotates backwards. If further adjustment is required the screwed rod 19 will move backwards in the barrel so that the teeth on the feednut 23 are released, allowing it to rotate, and after the next application the lock-nut 22 will follow it back along the screw as described above.</p> |
