1292228 Cumene BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 10 May 1971 [5 June 1970] 27269/70 Heading C5E Cumene is prepared by the transalkylation of benzene and diisopropylbenzene at above 250‹ C. in a molar ratio of at least 0À5 : 1 in the presence of hydrogen and an alkali metal cation-deficient zeolite of pore size at least 6 Š, having a SiO 2 : Al 2 O 3 ratio of at least 3 : 1 and containing a hydrogenating metal, i.e. a group VIII or Ib metal. Preferred zeolites are zeolites Y or L which have been decationized, and contain Ni, Co, Pt or Pd in amount 0À1-5 wt. per cent. The process may be combined with a process for the preparation of cumene by alkylation of benzene with propylene, the polyalkylbenzene by-product being combined with unreacted benzene to form the transalkylation feed. |
