PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adapter which can functionalize various types of optical systems appropriately for a lens interchangeable type camera system. SOLUTION: An adapter comprises: a first mount unit to/from which a camera body is attachable and detachable; a second mount unit which is provided independently of the first mount unit, and to/from which an interchangeable lens is attachable and detachable; and an adapter control unit which can communicate with the camera body attached to the first mount unit and the interchangeable lens attached to the second mount unit. The adapter control unit prepares lens information to transmit to the camera body based on lens information required from the camera body and lens information received from the interchangeable lens by different methods responded to classes of lens information.
