1320508 Flexible reinforced hose DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 16 June 1971 [18 June 1970] 29524/70 Heading F2P A flexible hosepipe comprises an inner lining layer, an outer covering layer, and a reinforcement comprising at least one die drawn stranded wire helically wound between the said inner and outer layers. As shown, a hose is made by wrapping a mandrel (not shown) with uncured rubber 1, a rubberized fabric breaker 2, further uncured rubber 3 and further rubberized breaker fabric 4, and then applying several layers 5 of textile fabric reinforcement precoated with uncured rubber. A further layer of uncured rubber is applied and a stranded die formed wire 7 wound helically on to the hose, a further layer of uncured rubber embedding the reinforcing coil in the layer 6 of rubber. Further plies of fabric reinforcements 8, breaker 9 and uncured rubber 10 are applied before wrapping the hose in nylon tape and vulcanizing. The nylon wrapper is then removed and the hose removed from the mandrel. In alternative constructions the plies 5 may be replaced by wire cord and the plies 8 may be replaced by one or more layers of closed cell sponge material to render the hose buoyant. The die formed wire 7 may be formed as seven strands, six of the strands being laid helically about a core strand at a pitch of 1“ inches and the stranded wire having a diameter of # of an inch and a breaking strain in excess of 28,000 pounds. More than one layer of stranded wire may be used and they may be of different diameters. |
