<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scroll display apparatus whose operability is improved. <P>SOLUTION: When a user starts a scroll operation, the scroll display apparatus is set in a low-speed scroll mode; and when the scroll operation input exceeds a threshold ThA, the display apparatus is set in a high-speed scroll mode. Thereafter, if the user does not perform the scroll operation for a time period TA, the display apparatus returns to the low-speed scroll mode. Moreover, if the magnitude of the scroll operation input exceeds a threshold ThB (ThB<ThA) before the lapse of the time period TB, the scroll display apparatus is set in a high-speed scroll mode at that point (b).
