The smart cruise control apparatus according to the present invention comprises: a detection part for detecting at least one among the position information, directional signal information and steering information of a preceding vehicle driving in the lane of a current vehicle when the preceding vehicle cuts into the lane of the current vehicle; a current distance calculation part for receiving at least one among the position information, directional signal information and steering information of the preceding vehicle, which has been detected by the detection part, and calculating a current distance from the current preceding vehicle based on the current velocity of the preceding vehicle for each time; a control part for receiving the current distance from the current preceding vehicle, which has been calculated by the current distance calculation part, and including predetermined ranges for each reference target distance from a preceding vehicle which has cut in; a judgment part for judging whether or not the current distance from the current preceding vehicle, which has been calculated by the current distance calculation part, is in a range for a reference target distance from the preceding vehicle which has cut in, among the ranges for each reference target distance from a preceding vehicle which has cut in; and a deceleration part for decelerating the current vehicle to the velocity of the vehicle corresponding to the reference target distance from the preceding vehicle which has cut in, via the control of the control part if the current distance from the current preceding vehicle, which has been judged by the judgment part, is in a range for the reference target distance from the preceding vehicle which has cut in, among the ranges for each reference target distance from a preceding vehicle which has cut in.
