Disclosed are a wireless access point which is connected to a communication device located in a covered range through a beam and an operating method thereof. A beam which is directed at a selective direction in the covered range of the wireless access point is formed; the direction in which a communication device is located in the covered range is checked; it is determined whether the communication device is a communication device to be served which uses a communication service by being connected to the wireless access point based on a transmission signal received from the communication device through the formed beam; and the beam is directed in the direction of the communication device when the communication device is determined as the communication device to be served. As a result, the problem which harms the performance and stability of an entire wireless communication network due to a beam formed for a communication device which is located in a covered range, but is excluded from devices to be served can be solved.
