An electrode assembly and a secondary battery are provided to prevent melting and shrinking of the separator in heat generation of a secondary battery and to improve overcharging property and heat exposure property by employing a separator with high melting strength and tear strength. An electrode assembly comprises a positive electrode equipped with a positive electrode active material layer; a negative electrode equipped with a negative electrode active material layer; and a separator separating the positive electrode and the negative electrode. The separator is made of a polyethylene resin. The polyethylene resin comprises a compatibilizer containing metallocene-based polyethylene, organized montmorillonite and ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid anhydride is grafted to a polyethylene chain. |
