PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for operating an illumination device are provided to constantly supply output current to load by controlling off-timing of a switching element. CONSTITUTION: A rectifier (110) rectifies voltage being supplied from outside into electric signals. An electricity conversion unit (120) outputs rectified power according to a power switch. Load (130) is operated by the driving voltage outputted through the electricity conversion unit. A current detector (140) detects output current being supplied to the load and detects first current corresponding to the output current. A current transmit unit (150) transmits the current corresponding to the output current to a control unit (160) through the current detector.
