The present invention relates to a system and a method for recommending content, comprising: a content database for storing information on content including a content introduction, a user's guide of the content and a summary; a metadata extracting device for receiving the information on the content and extracting metadata expressing properties of the content; a content cluster generation device for clustering each content according to the extracted metadata; and a recommended content selecting device for mapping content, purchased by a user, with the content cluster according to a user's content purchase history, and recommending content, of which substance is similar to that of the content purchased by the user, to the user with a recommended content list. By this means, the present invention recommends the content of which substance is practically similar to that of the content purchased by the user on the basis of the substance of the content and the purchase history of the content, thereby capable of recommending the content belonging to various genres and categories and providing highly precise personalized recommended information.
