PURPOSE: A method for checking and searching the operating state of a host in an Internet protocol version 6 (IPv6) network is provided to refer to the operating state of the host in the establishment and maintenance of network management policies or network security policies, thereby providing stably network services. CONSTITUTION: A method for checking and searching the operating state of a host in an IPv6 network comprises the steps of: transmitting an Internet control message protocol for version 6 (ICMPv6) node information queries packet to a host in a network through an agent (S101); receiving the ICMPv6 node information queries packet transmitted from the agent through the host and transmitting an ICMPv6 node information reply packet, to which information required for the ICMPv6 node information queries packet is set, to the agent or the network through the host (S103); and receiving the ICMPv6 node information reply packet transmitted from the host through the agent and obtaining information about the host through the agent by using the ICMPv6 node information reply packet (S105).
