The method involves selecting a cooking process of food. The parameters for the cooking process are provided. The maximum duration and maximum power level of the cooking device is determined. The cooking process is selected or inputted into a controller (15). The controller is configured to enable a function unit in off state according to maximum time of the cooking appliance for the preparation of the cooking material. The sensors are used to determine parameters of the cooking process to extend or to shorten the service life. An independent claim is included for a device of controlling cooking appliance.
