PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surfactant easily yielding a coating composition capable of forming a coat film excellent in terms of color matching attributes (ameliorations of color buoyancy, color separation, color irregularity, etc.) and water resistance.SOLUTION: The surfactant includes a compound having, in terms of unit consisting of a group S expressed by the formula (2) and U constituted by a 2-hydroxypropylene or hydroxymethylethylene group, a cyclic structure comprising 3 or 4 repetitive units: {H(OA)-}Q{-(OA)-}(2); Q is a residue provided by excluding hydrogen atoms from two or three types of non-reducing primary hydroxyl groups numbering in t; OA is an oxyalkylene group having 2 to 4 carbon atoms; H is a hydrogen atom; t and n respectively express 2 to 4 and 5 to 30; the total number of OA groups is 20 to 60. |
