PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a desalination method of sea water or the like, with which desalination is achieved while reducing occurrence of available chlorine or the like as much as possible.SOLUTION: In a desalination method in which water (1) to be treated such as sea water is made to pass between electrodes of a diaphragm, ions in the water to be treated are separated by using a cation permeable membrane (4) as the diaphragm. While in the desalination method of sea water or the like, the water to be treated such as sea water is desalinated by being made to pass between the electrodes of the diaphragm, because the ions in the water to be treated are separated by using the cation permeable membrane as the diaphragm, transfer of chloride ions and bromine ions on the cathode side to the anode side is avoided, and consequently occurrence of available chlorine (Cl, HOCl, ClO) and available bromine (Br, HOBr, BrO) or the like can be suppressed. |
