1276106 Turbomachine blades ROLLSROYCE Ltd 8 Dec 1970 [19 Dec 1969] 62042/69 Heading FIT The blades 12 of a turbomachine, e.g. a gas turbine engine compressor, are mounted in slots 14 in a support member 11 for limited pivotal movement, adjacent blades being inter-connected by frangible members 16, 17 which normally restrain the blades against such pivotal movement but which break when subjected during operation to an excessive force such as a heavy bird strike. Support member 11 may be a rotor or stator and the slots 14 contain part-cylindrical members 15 on opposite sides of each blade root 13 and mating with the curved surfaces of the slots to permit the pivotal movement. The ends 22 of connecting members 16, 17 are each trapped between a root 13 and a member 15, the other ends of members 16, 17 being joined by mating fingers 20, 21 resin bonded together. The members 16, 17 may be of nylon reinforced with carbon fibres. In a modification the connecting members extend between the blade tips.
