PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine capable of improving fuel consumption and reducing an emission amount of black smoke even if a combustion chamber is under a high-temperature and high-density state, in a direct injection type combustion engine at a comparatively simple and low-cost constitution.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine 100 according to the present invention is provided with a combustion chamber 150 surrounded by a top face of a piston 120, a lower face of a cylinder head 110 and an inner peripheral wall 130 of a cylinder for slidably housing the piston 120, and directly injects and supplies fuel to the combustion chamber. The internal combustion engine includes: a fuel injection nozzle 160 faced to the combustion chamber 150 from the lower face of the cylinder head 110 and injecting the fuel; and a mesh member 202 for passing fuel spray to outside while colliding with at least one part of the fuel spray injected from the fuel injection nozzle 160, and restraining development of flame generated by the passed fuel spray toward the fuel injection nozzle 160. |
