PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid oxide fuel battery arranged so that the service life of a reformer can be made longer by suppression of thermal runaway.SOLUTION: A solid oxide fuel battery (1) comprises: a fuel battery module (2) having a plurality of fuel battery cell units (16); an external heat-insulating material (7); a modification part (20b) disposed over the cell units; an evaporation chamber (20a) disposed adjacently to the modification part; a combustion chamber (18) for heating the evaporation chamber; a heat exchanger (22) for preheating a power-generation oxidant gas; fuel-supply means; modification-use oxidant gas supply means; water-supply means; power-generation-use oxidant gas-supply means; a heat-insulation layer (23) for facilitating the rise in temperature of the evaporation chamber by suppression of heat transfer from the evaporation chamber to the heat exchanger; and control means (110) for raising the temperature of the fuel battery cell units in a start step. The control means performs control to prevent a partial oxidation modification reaction from occurring in the modification part independently in the whole period of the start step. |
