The present invention relates to a backlight unit which is capable of easily designing a narrow bezel and discharging heat from a light source and a liquid crystal display device using the same, comprising: a housing which includes a bottom part and a side part; a light guide plate which is received on the bottom part of the housing; a printed circuit board whose rear side is in direct contact with the side part of the housing; a plurality of light emitting diodes which are mounted on the printed circuit board and emit light to the side part of the liquid guide plate; and a fixing bar which is in surface contact with the front side of the printed circuit board in which the light emitting diodes are mounted and fixes and closely bonds the printed circuit board to the side part of the housing.
