PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of controlling oscillation more quickly with high accuracy, even if a low cost apparatus is employed.SOLUTION: A welding apparatus for welding a base metal by oscillating a welding torch includes: a vertical slide control unit for controlling an arc length by measuring an arc voltage during welding to vertically move a welding torch based on the measured arc voltage; a groove surface detection unit 251 for detecting a groove surface by grasping an observation reversed height h' that is an amount of lift of the welding torch in which the arc length is controlled by the vertical slide control unit during oscillation of the welding torch and by comparing it with a pre-set setup reversed height ht; and a groove width calculation unit 252, an average value calculation unit 253, and an oscillation control unit 254 for calculating an oscillation width of the welding torch based on multiple detection of the groove surface by the groove surface detection unit 251, and for controlling the oscillation of the welding torch by the calculated oscillation width.
