The device has a power channel (11) that is arranged to exchange electric current with an electrical energy storage system such as battery (B1). A commutation unit such as power relay (41), is arranged to connect the electrical energy storage system to the power channel while disconnecting other electrical energy storage systems such as battery (Bn), that is sequentially connected to the power channel during a predetermined time interval. The connection is performed to impose exchange of current entering the device and the storage system connected to the channel. An independent claim is also included for a method for characterization of an electrical energy storage system.
