PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a hot-rolled steel sheet, which can ensure the ability of biting the front end part of a material to be rolled even when rolling is carried out under high pressure by using small-diameter work rolls having a surface layer including a cemented carbide in the later stage of hot finish rolling.SOLUTION: A method for producing a hot-rolled steel sheet includes finish rolling by using a hot finish rolling mill train. Work rolls of at least one rolling mill of later-stage rolling mills among rolling mills provided in the hot finish rolling mill train are each formed so as to have a diameter of 600 mm or less and include a cemented carbide having a surface elastic modulus of 300 GPa or more. The work rolls have a surface roughness of 0.3 μm or more and 2.0 μm or less in Ra. A rolling reduction by the rolling mill including the work rolls is set at 25% or more. Rolling is carried out without supplying a lubricant to the work rolls.
