This steering column device is provided with: a first bracket that supports a column tube that rotatably supports a steering shaft; a second bracket that is coupled to the first bracket and affixes the column tube to a vehicle body by means of being attached to the vehicle body; and a separation mechanism that is provided to the second bracket and that allows the column tube to separate from the vehicle body along the column axis direction in the anterior direction by means of a set load during a secondary impact in a vehicle collision. By means of the steering column device, the first bracket, second bracket, separation mechanism, and the like are integrated in the state prior to being attached to the vehicle body. The first bracket and second bracket are coupled in a relatively rotatable manner with a coupling mechanism therebetween, and the center of rotation of the relative rotation intersects the axis center of the steering shaft. In the state prior to the first bracket, second bracket, separation mechanism, and the like being attached to the vehicle body, when an external force exceeding a predetermined value along the column axis direction has acted on the separation mechanism, the relative rotation of the first bracket and the second bracket is permitted by the coupling mechanism. |
