PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable vehicle perimeter monitoring system with which obstacles that exist within areas around a vehicle that cannot be seen from a driver's seat can be detected with high accuracy.SOLUTION: A vehicle perimeter monitoring system 10 includes: two stereo camera units 14 and 16 that are located on the upper part of a vehicle and angled to a lower road surface so that images of areas around the vehicle that cannot be seen from a driver's seat can be recorded; image analysis units 18 and 20 that are designed to determine whether or not any obstacles exist according to the images recorded by the stereo camera units 14 and 16; and a warning signal generation unit 22 that is designed to generate a warning signal if it is determined that an obstacle(s) exists according to the image analysis units 18 and 20.
