PHOTONIC CRYSTALS AND TAPERED-WAVEGUIDE COUPLERS FOR SPECTROMETERS

Systems and methods for spectrometers based on membranes patterned with photonic crystals and tapered-waveguide couplers are disclosed herein. A exemplary device can include an optical fiber. The optical fiber can have main and distal regions. The distal region can allow at least a portion of the electromagnetic radiation to exist outside of the optical fiber. A membrane can include coupling and patterned regions. The coupling region can be proximate to the distal region of the optical fiber and can couple at least part of the portion of the electromagnetic radiation into the membrane.
