The present invention relates to a display device capable of reducing power consumption and a driving method thereof. The display device according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises a display panel and a signal control part which controls signals for driving the display panel. The signal control part comprises; a representative value producing part which sequentially calculates image data of at least part of image data of a frame and changes the last positional number to the other positional number whenever calculating the image data and produces the representative value which represents at least part of the image data; a storage part for storing the representative value; and a comparison part which determines whether an image of at least part of the image data shows a stop image or a moving image by comparing the representative value of a present frame with a representative value of a previous frame. The signal control part controls a driving frequency of the time that the image of at least part of the image data shows a stop image to be lowered than a driving frequency of the time that the image of at least part of the image data shows a moving image.
