1476023 Roller burnishing tools COGSDILL TOOL PRODUCTS Inc 5 Sept 1975 [24 Jan 1975] 36692/75 Heading B3M A roller burnishing tool for finishing the internal or external surface of a cylindrical workpiece incorporates caged tapered rollers 55 supported by a mandrel 41, the cage and mandrel being relatively axially movable by a piston and cylinder assembly 68 to which a predetermined rolling pressure is applied. The mandrel is rotatable by a pulley wheel 26, and the cage 53 is coupled to a central shaft 57 which is connected at its opposite end to a piston rod 66. A piston attached to the rod is pneumatically operated to shift the cage and thereby adjust the rollers radially. A stop screw 77 limits the degree of reaction of the rollers by the piston. The rollers are skewed slightly to feed the workpiece axially, and the pulley belt 43 may be smooth or toothed. The air pressure applied to the piston is kept constant by a regulating valve. A similar tool (Fig. 4 not shown) is used for brushing the exterior of a workpiece. |
