PURPOSE: A control apparatus for an auto light and head-up display (HUD) and a control method thereof are provided to design an auto light sensor unit and a HUD sensor unit in one housing, thereby reducing complexity of the interior of a vehicle. CONSTITUTION: An auto light sensor unit (11) detects an illumination of the periphery of a vehicle according to a first illumination detection property. A HUD sensor unit (12) detects the illumination of the periphery of the vehicle according to a second illumination detection property. A control unit (23) controls a light installed in the vehicle to be turn on or off or adjusts a luminous intensity of a HUD backlight unit, according to an illumination value measured by the auto light sensor unit. The control unit controls the luminous intensity of the HUD backlight unit according to the illumination value measured by the HUD sensor unit. A light drive unit (31) drives the light by receiving a control signal output from the control unit. A backlight drive unit (32) drives a backlight by receiving the control signal output from the control unit.
