PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical connector which does not require an adaptor and is easy to attach/detach. SOLUTION: An optical connector includes: a ferrule for holding an optical fiber; an engaging member which has a pair of elastic pieces provided with pawl parts to be engaged with an engagement part on a side surface of a reception side optical connector and movably stores the ferrule on the back side while energizing the ferrule to a front side when a side on an end surface viewed from the optical fiber is front and the reverse side is back; and a cylindrical housing which is movable in a back and forth direction with respect to the engaging member and enters a binding state in which the outsides of the elastic pieces are bound by inner surfaces in the state where the pawl parts are engaged with the engagement part due to the movement of the housing toward the front side with respect to the engaging member. In a release state before the housing moves toward the front side with respect to the engaging member and before the reception side optical connector is inserted between the pair of pawl parts, the outsides of the elastic pieces are in contact with a front edge of the housing, so that movement toward the front side with respect to the engaging member of the housing is restricted.
