The invention relates to a method for hydrodynamically separating a mixture of solid crushed substances into at least two fractions. According to this method, a mixture curtain is allowed to fall under gravity at the upper part of a horizontal liquid stream having a constant and uniform velocity and the solid fractions which are deposited by gravity are extracted in zones located at different distances from the curtain. The invention also relates to a separator for the implementation of the method, this separator including a ring-shaped vessel 1, a feed 3 for the solid mixture, extraction zones 5, 6, extraction siphons 7, a circulating means 21, 22 and means 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 for making the water velocities uniform. It can be used for separating the cullet from the crushed recuperation (recovery) glass. <IMAGE>
