PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing apparatus including a sensor performing both sheet detection at a specific position within a conveyance path and opening detection of a cover for covering a part of the conveyance path, and a technique for enabling appropriate notification of an error to be expected.SOLUTION: A printer 100 includes a sensor 20 having both a function of detecting whether a sheet exists at a specific position of a sheet conveyance path 11 and a function of detecting whether an external cover 62 is in an opened state. The printer 100 determines whether a user is in the vicinity thereof when the sensor 20 enters a detected state during a printing operation. If it is determined that the user is not in the vicinity of the printer 100, the user is notified of a jam of the sheet. On the other hand, if it is determined that the user is in the vicinity of the printer 100, the user is notified of at least opening of the external cover 62. |
