PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for storing a document image including a plurality of images in a convenient form.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus comprises: a document image acquiring unit that acquires document image data which is generated by optically reading a document and represents a document image; an area image generating unit that generates a plurality of pieces of area image data respectively representing a plurality of area images included in the document image using the document image data; and a file generating unit that generates a file which includes the plurality of pieces of area image data and in which the plurality of area images are arranged in mutually different pages.
