PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine including a variable compression ratio mechanism that relatively moves a cylinder block with respect to a crank case, in which a lubricating oil in the crank case is supplied to the cylinder head via external piping connecting between the crank case and the cylinder head, the internal combustion engine being configured to avoid damage to the external piping at the time of collision of a vehicle.SOLUTION: In an internal combustion engine including a variable compression ratio mechanism, external piping 90 has a flexible bent part 90a for being deformed by following a relative movement of a cylinder block 2 with respect to a crank case 1 by the variable compression ratio mechanism. A portion of a cover 91 for the variable compression ratio mechanism, extending from the crank case to the cylinder head is provided with a protection passage 91a for the external piping. |
