PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission device and a transmission method which are improved in user-friendliness to be suitable for practical use by maintaining compatibility with the current MHL standard and allowing the increase of supply power to be supplied and the increase in transmission rate of a control signal.SOLUTION: The transmission device includes first switching means and second switching means. The first switching means selectively switches between a first supply power transmission state of using only a power line to transmit supply power and a second supply power transmission state of using a plurality of lines including the power line and one of a control signal line and a pair of differential pair lines to transmit the supply power. The second switching means selectively switches between a first control signal transmission state of using only the control signal line to transmit a control signal and a second control signal transmission state of using a plurality of lines including the control signal line and one of the power line and the pair of differential pair lines to transmit the control signal.
