A method for selectively recovering copper and/or cobalt from an aqueous ammoniacal solution of copper and cobalt, the method comprising the steps of: Ensuring the cobalt in the aqueous ammoniacal solution of copper and cobalt exists substantially as Co(I II); Contacting the aqueous ammoniacal solution of copper and cobalt with an organic solution of a copper extractant, producing copper depleted aqueous ammoniacal solution containing cobalt, and a copper-enriched organic solution of a copper extractant; Reducing the ammonia concentration of the copper-depleted aqueous ammoniacal solution containing cobalt to produce an ammonia- and copper depleted aqueous ammoniacal solution containing cobalt; and Contacting the ammonia and copper-depleted aqueous ammoniacal solution containing cobalt with an organic solution of a cobalt extractant, producing an ammonia-, cobalt-, and copper-depleted aqueous ammoniacal solution, and a cobalt-enriched organic solution of a cobalt extractant. 0 , CD M% -%a CDs. 2 + a3 o E-a CD -- CD -- N) C n CD~ N) N)0 2) N) = ,+~N N) , s-~N N-)~ O ~ ~ ~ ~ Cc N n- h ga 2 |
