The winch assembly of the present invention provides for improved safety when winding and unwinding the winch in that a cover is used which substantially covers the spur gear mechanism and thereby provides a protective barrier between 5 moving mechanical parts of the winch and a user's hands. The cover may be manufactured as part of the winch assembly, or can be retrofitted to existing winch assemblies. |
