PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an atomic oscillator in which compaction of the circuit part and power saving are facilitated.SOLUTION: An atomic oscillator 1 utilizing electromagnetic induction transmission phenomenon occurring by irradiating alkali metal atoms with resonant light pair includes a light source 10, gaseous alkali metal atoms 20, a photodetector 30, and a frequency control unit 40. The light source 10 generates multiple light beams containing first light and second light, which have coherency and different frequency, with which the alkali metal atoms 20 are irradiated. The photodetector 30 receives multiple light beams 22 transmitted through the alkali metal atoms 20, and generates a detection signal 32 containing a beat signal of a specific frequency obtained by interference of the multiple light beams 22. The frequency control unit 40 controls the frequency of at least one of the first light and second light, so that they become a resonant light pair for causing electromagnetic induction transmission phenomenon in the alkali metal atoms 20, based on a beat signal of a specific frequency contained in the detection signal 32. |
