The cylinder (10) has a housing (12) comprising a cylinder tube (14) in which a cylinder area (21) is formed. A piston (20) having outer diameter is axially movable in the cylinder tube. The piston is connected with a piston rod (26) that projects from the housing. The cylinder area has a longitudinal section with inner diameter larger than outer diameter of the piston. The cylinder area has another longitudinal section with inner diameter that is equal to the outer diameter of the piston. The longitudinal sections define base stroke (42) and force stroke (44) of the piston, respectively.
