The laundry treatment appliance (1) comprises a rotatable laundry drum (2) with a loading opening (3), whose edge is formed by a drum seam (4). A detection unit (9) is provided for detecting idleness of the rotatable drum, which comprises a contactless detecting sensor (10). The sensor of the detection unit is installed and arranged to detect rotation of the drum seam. The detection unit is adapted to detect the idleness of the rotatable drum based on an alternating signal triggered by rotation of the laundry drum. An independent claim is included for a method for detecting idleness of a rotating drum of a laundry treatment appliance.
