A tensioning device holds the set of storage cells together between pressure plates (18, 20), where each storage cell is held in an edge region between retaining end frames (12, 16) and a retaining intermediate frame (14). Each storage cell has an active part (4) with a structure for receiving and outputting electric energy by an electrochemical reaction, and the region surrounds the active part.
