The device has a feed device (5) for feeding a cleaning fluid to a rolling train (2) of an inking unit (14), where the rolling train includes a first roller (3) driven by friction of a second roller (4), and a third roller (7) adjustable by an associated doctor blade (8). The doctor blade is arranged in a rotation direction of the first roller, where the feed device is arranged such that the cleaning fluid is supplied in a gap (6) between the second roller and the third roller, and supply of the cleaning fluid takes place in a predefinable cycle. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a device for applying and metering of cleaning fluid to rotating contact rollers of a rolling train.
