摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for determining to which user to grant access in a shared access communication system, such that the throughput of the system is maximized while ensuring that each user is granted equitable access to the communication system.SOLUTION: Provided is a transmitter directed, distributed receiver using multi-user diversity provided by the distribution of the receiver. A scheduler metric represents instantaneous quality of a communication link between each user and a transmitter with respect to the average quality of the link. Alternatively, the scheduler metric represents an instantaneous channel condition with respect to the average data throughput over that channel. A common transmitting station uses the scheduler metric to directly compare desirability of granting each channel access with desirability of granting each other channel access. The users with links that have the greatest scheduler metric are provided with access to the channels.
